Poseidon - 2006. Apparently there was also a 2005 Poseidon that I've not seen. This version? The characters were cardboard cut-out and were not given enough time to be people, so they never came across as anything more than cardboard cut-out. In fact, the girl who died and was supposed to make a huge impact on the audience really only bothered Mrs. NFB and me in that we knew her as Sydney's sister from Alias. I could probably write five hundred pages just on how wrong they were with the ballast tank handling alone. The science and facts were wrong in every possible place they could be. But still, the movie was overall. . .SUCK!
Holy Smoke - ostensibly about Kate Winslet's character being saved from a cult of some kind or another, but really about saving her "exiter" from his womanizing ways by playing slap and tickle with him, and then mind-fucking him in ways that would make any man break down. He referred to her as his "avenging angel." Mrs. NFB and myself were both confused how what she did led to a seduction, even though he was trying not to. Best theory I've got is it forced him to look at her and then he couldn't resist. Kate Winslet naked, but not for long enough. Not a horrible movie, though I doubt I'd watch it again.
From Dusk till Dawn - Good, unclean fun. Cheech is hilarious playing the straight border guard. Just him in that role is funny enough. Then as the "pussy speech" guy. Then as the big-time gangster dude at the end. And you've got a serious hottay playing the minister's daughter. Clooney not being annoying and smug. And Tarantino playing what I can only assume is himself since it's the same character he's played on every TV show and movie I've ever seen him in. And naked and half-naked babes shaking their shit. "Vampires, no interviews." Good 'nuff.
Watching some of the bonus features, it looks like Rodriguez pretty much just sits around playing guitar on set all the time, and then gets a director's credit for it. I could do that!
BREAK
Randomness.
Dad had a Bonsai tree in his office back in the seventies, though I didn't know it was a Bonsai at the time. He never trimmed it. He never repotted it. He never did any maintenance except for water and fertilize. Eventually, he needed to move it out of his office because it just grew too big and his official stance was, "that's just the way trees are." I've always had a hankering to prove him wrong. I grow closer to making that attempt sometime in the coming year. Starting with seeds and growing a Bonsai "forest" in a large, fairly flat pot. Research, bitches. It's what's for breakfast.
My step sister I refuse to claim on Dad's side is pushing her mom right up to the brink. They're selling the house. Her husband keeps calling dad from work and asking what he's going to do once he doesn't have a place to live. Dad says now's the time to get a grip. Kick mommy out and tell her it's your family and actually get his wife to listen to him. It's not gonna happen, but it's a neat theory.
AFKS had a family run-in over the weekend that left him thrilled and poppy. But he survived. His nephew creature is gonna try and go to the Dethklok concert too. Should be interesting. He was fun to interact with at the Disturbed show in town. Though he spent most of the show macking some hot-babe instead of listening to the tunage. Us old married guys just don't get paying for tickets and then doing something you could do any other day I guess.
Enough. Outzers.
