Oh, it's gonna be an exciting Friday night in the NFB household.  Hellz yeahz.

FRIDAY NIGHT!  Flooding.

Mrs. NFB plans to watch the daytime emmy show.  Or whatever it is.

Which means I get free reign of the HD set in the bedroom.  I'm gonna lock up the PS2, the DVD player and rock teh hizzy.

Or, really, lay on my ass watching some shows I've gotten on DVD that she doesn't want to watch, then play Tekken until she's done.

This is the thrilling excitement that is my life.  Watch with awe, bitches.  And stay back, this kind of speed is dangerous.

BREAK

The flooding has been on my mind a lot lately.  With towns I used to spend a huge amount of time in all over the news, places I hung out being backdrops to news vultures talking of devastation with a detached voice, it's ate at me that most of the people I know down there, while safe so far, have all felt it in some way.  Some more than others.

Keokuk, Burlington, Cedar Rapids, and others have made the news on a national level several days in a row.  All places I used to frequent.  All places still containing friends, family, and acquaintances.

Best of wishes to the lot of them.  Though it feels so helpless to be here while they are there and suffering.

Unfortunately, that doesn't feel like I'm accomplishing much more than greasing some giant machine's gears.

None of my family or people I know are at risk (I left a long time ago and what family is there doesn't live downtown-ish anymore and are uphill a ways). But, I'm saddened by Czech Town getting flooded -- I took Czech summer school growing up, went to every festival down there, Dad got meats at the meat shop there, went to the museum every year at least. Sigh.
